Popular culture is about the 'things', 'products' and 'practices of modern society.
A canon is a group of arts that are deemed and predicted to be great. New canon's are being made all the time within in society and the public. A modern canon could consist of Steven Speilberg, Luther by Neil Cross(Uncle)  which has become even bigger during the second series.
Popular culture isn't just about films and books. It also consists of great graffiti artists such as Banksy and also old and new classics of doctor who.
